Objetivos del Simposio

El objetivo principal del simposio es el de ofrecer y facilitar a la comunidad de investigadores genealogistas e historiadores de Puerto Rico y el Caribe el foro para compartir información e investigaciones sobre las corrientes migratorias a través de los siglos, fundamentales en la formación de los pueblos del Caribe. Además, el Simposio pretende:

• Aproximarse a la historia del Caribe, a través de sus procesos migratorios de distintas nacionalidades, comprendiendo las muchas “familias” que nos unen.
• Al contar con la participación de los interesados en el tema, “Migraciones en el Caribe”, proponer la interacción e intercambio por parte de los participantes que provienen de las diversas instituciones y disciplinas; y así también la difusión y publicación de las temáticas que cada uno desarrolla.
• Identificar las futuras directrices y derroteros de la investigación básica histórico-genealógica del Caribe. Igualmente, este Simposio pretende ser un marco propicio para introducir a otras personas interesadas en esta disciplina.
• Proveer un espacio de diálogo y de aprendizaje entre académicos, investigadores, estudiantes y profesionales del ámbito de la Genealogía e Historia no sólo de Puerto Rico sino también del Caribe, representando para todos una excelente oportunidad para compartir con nuestros colegas de países vecinos.
• Favorecer la generación y fortalecimiento de relaciones redes asociativas intra e interdisciplinarias en el ámbito de la Genealogía e Historia a nivel nacional e internacional.

The main goal of the symposium is to provide and facilitate to the community of historical and genealogical researchers focused on Puerto Rico and the Caribbean a forum to share information and research results about migration trends throughout the centuries, fundamental to the formation of the Caribbean nations. In addition, the Symposium aims to:

• Approach the History of the Caribbean through the migratory processes of different national groups, understanding the many “families” that make us one.
• With the participation of individuals interested in the topic of “Caribbean Migrations”, to propose the interaction and exchange among participants representing diverse institutions and disciplines, thus permitting the diffusion and publication of the topic areas each one specializes in.
• Gauge trends of historical and genealogical research in the Caribbean. Equally, this Symposium pretends to be a forum to attract individuals interested in the discipline.
• Provide a space for dialogue and learning among scholars, researchers, students and professors in the areas of Genealogy and History, not only in Puerto Rico, but also in the Caribbean, representing to all an excellent opportunity to share with our colleagues from neighboring islands.
• Favor the generation and strengthening of relations, networks intra- and inter-disciplinary in the areas of Genealogy and History, both nationally and internationally.
